Over 71,000 brought back to Chhattisgarh in Shramik train

The Chhattisgarh government has brought back 71,712 labourers and others belonging to the state who were stranded in other states due to the Covid-19 induced lockdown in 53 Special Shramik Trains.

Labour Minister Dr Shivkumar Dahariya said the state government had till now made a payment of over Rs 3 crores on the mammoth exercise.

A total of 59 trains have been approved till date, with Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel keeping a close watch on the mass homecoming.

At the same time, Dr Dahariya said that workers of other states reaching the Chhattisgarh borders on their own have been provided food. Their health is checked and they are provided transport to reach the border of their respective states.

He said that Labour Department officials are making arrangements to provide ration and cash for labourers in         coordination with various      industrial organizations, owners and managers.

Payment of pending salaries worth nearly Rs 38 crores has been done to 26,205 labourers of Chhattisgarh.

Simultaneously, employment was given to nearly 104,000    workers. As many as 1,390 big and small factories have started     operating again in the state.
