Police on Wednesday said they had busted two inter-state smuggling syndicates and seized 201 kg of marijuana valued at Rs 20 lakh in three separate incidents. Five persons have been arrested. The police also seized vehicles used in the smuggling. The raids were carried out in the Manendragarh and Kelhari police station limits. “On the instructions of District Police Headquarters, a trap was laid on Prasagarhi bridge,” Manendragarh Police Station SHO Sachin Singh said.
Here the police seized 165 kg of marijuana from a pick-up truck and arrested Abhishek Jaiswal, Rashid Hussian and Doman Hill, Singh said. The men were trying to enter Madhya Pradesh.
In the second incident, Sunil Das was arrested during search operations near Udalkachar Road and the police recovered 2 kg of marijuana from his bike, the SHO added.
Separately, two men travelling in a Bolero vehicle -- Pradip Devangan and Abdul Ibrahim -- were arrested for smuggling marijuana, said the Kelhari police station in-charge, Probationary Deputy Superintendent of Police G.S. Rao. Police seized 34 kg of marijuana from the vehicle, added the officer.
