Supreme Court orders stay on High Court decision

Friday, 30 October 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

The Supreme Court has ordered a stay on the order of the Uttarakhand high court directing a CBI inquiry in the case of the social media post targeting the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. Welcoming this decision, the BJP State chief spokesman and MLA Munna Singh Chauhan said that this is a jolt for the Congress and other opposition parties.

Addressing the media here on Thursday Chauhan said, “We were confident that the HC order would not stand in the apex court as it was full of loopholes and also ignored the principle of natural justice. Ordering an immediate stay on the HC order, the Supreme Court justices have also made some sharp observations on the HC judgement which is also important to note.”

He said that actually this development has not brought any relief to the CM because there was nothing against him in the case in the first place. In fact, this has stumped those people who had orchestrated the conspiracy against the CM. “The manner in which the Congress state president, leader of opposition and former CM Harish Rawat along with other Congress leaders were impatiently demanding the CM’s resignation and making irresponsible statements following the HC order made us inquire into it. We reached the conclusion that the Congress arrived at a settlement with Umesh Sharma who had conducted a sting operation on Harish Rawat in the past. The Congress reached an agreement with Sharma and in order to derive improper political benefit, participated in the conspiracy to taint the image of the CM. When Sharma had carried out the sting operation, the Congress representatives had stated in the high court that he could not be trusted and that he was a blackmailer. Now those very people told the high court that Sharma was an ethical journalist whose democratic rights were being impinged upon. I ask Harish Rawat whether he considers Sharma to be a good journalist, whether the criminal cases against him are wrong and whether he is working ethically as a journalist,” said Chauhan.

He further said that CM Trivendra Singh Rawat has implemented zero tolerance for corruption in letter and spirit. This has disturbed those who were involved in unethical activities in the corridors of power. It is such elements who have been conspiring consistently against the CM. Replying to a query on what action the BJP will take against the Congress for its alleged role in the conspiracy, he said that being a political party, the BJP will respond politically.
