Temple guards who helped cops nab Vikas removed

Saturday, 11 July 2020 | PNS | Ujjain

After notorious gangster Vikas Dubey of Kanpur was arrested in Ujjain and gunned down on Friday morning, the Ujjain district administration removed three security guards who had played important role in nabbing Dubey.

The administration removed Ruby Yadav, the Mahakal temple security in charge who was instrumental in the ‘arrest’ of the gangster.

Yadav had on Thursday claimed that she had received information of a suspicious man in the temple and had asked her men to keep a watch on him before finally nabbing him and handing him over to police. Yadav however was removed from her posting on Friday.

Ujjain police which narrated a raw story of Vikas Dubey being spotted at the temple, nabbed and handed over to UP police in evening, did not offer any more information about the probe into the matter as to how Dubey a wanted criminal reached Ujjain and Mahakal temple despite a high alert against him in UP, MP and other States.

The police even did not offer any reply during the press briefing on Thursday as to why no case was lodged against Dubey before handing him over to UP police.

To add, besides breaching Mahakal temple security, Dubey could have been booked for carrying a knife in his bag which was later recovered by police from the cloak room of the temple.

It was also not clear who shot the video which were later found from the mobile phone of the dreaded gangster inside Mahakal temple. In a video, he is seen roaming around with ease at Nandi Hall and someone was shooting his video from behind. He was also clicked in a picture while entering the temple at a security barricade.

It wasn’t also not clear how Dubey reached Ujjain as he had told the police that he boarded a bus at New Delhi and came to Ujjain via Kota in Rajasthan but it’s quite surprising that inter-State buses are still non-operational. The police also did not specify who were the local aides of Dubey after he reached Ujjain.

The police had nabbed four persons including two Lucknow based lawyers on Friday but the police said nothing about their links to Dubey or his visit to Ujjain. A UP native Anant Tiwari has been detained by police on Thursday on suspicion of aiding Dubey in Ujjain. Tiwari a manager with a local liquor company is a relative of Dubey. Dubey however in police questioning had declined to identify Tiwari.

The role of a private security agency guards posted at Mahakal temple was also questionable.

However, MP police has specified that they will only probe into the matter further if their counterparts from UP request them to do so.

Besides a communique issued by Ujjain police on Thursday late evening, MP police top brass is mum on the entire incident. “We have fulfilled out duty by handing Vikas Dubey over to UP police at UP border,” affirmed Madhya Pradesh Home minister Dr Narottam Mishra on Friday.
