Covid-19 contagion on record breaking path in U’khand

The new wave of the Covid-19 in Uttarakhand is reaching the peak observed during the first wave of the disease in the state. The state health department reported 1,925 cases of the disease on Tuesday. This incidentally is the second highest number of cases reported in the state in a single day. On September 19 last year, 2078 cases of the disease were reported which is the record in terms of daily cases of the disease. Apart from an increase in the number of the cases of the disease, the contagion of Covid-19 is increasingly becoming fatal. On Tuesday 13 deaths from the disease were reported which is the highest number of deaths in one day this year. In the state, 15 deaths were reported on December 18 which is the highest fatality in a day ever since the contagion started in the state on March 15 last year. The state now has 112076 (cumulative) cases of the disease and the death toll from the disease now stands at 1780.

The authorities discharged 405 patients from different hospitals of the state following their recovery from the disease on Tuesday.  A total of 98897 patients have recovered from the disease in the state and the recovery percentage has now dropped to 88.24 and the sample positivity rate is 3.58 percent.

The provisional state capital Dehradun which has turned into a Covid-19 hotspot reported 775 patients on Tuesday. The authorities also reported 594 patients from Haridwar, 217 from Nainital, 172 from Udham Singh Nagar, 35 from Tehri, 33 from Pauri, 31 from Almora, 21 from Champawat, 13 each from Bageshwar and Pithoragarh, 12 from Rudraprayag , eight from Chamoli and one from Uttarkashi on the day.

The health department reported the death of five patients each from Himalayan hospital Jollygrant and Sushila Tiwari government hospital Haldwani on Tuesday.

Two patients died at Kailash hospital Dehradun while one succumbed to the disease at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on the day.

The state now has 9353 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 3828 patients, Haridwar has 2812, Nainital 1007, Udham Singh Nagar 480, Tehri 314, Almora 125, Pithoragarh 92, Bageshwar 89, Rudraprayag 80, Champawat 71 , Chamoli 47 and Uttarkashi 29 active cases of Covid-19 each. In the vaccination drive 34799 people were vaccinated in different parts of the state on Tuesday. In the state 196964 people have been fully vaccinated so far as they have received both the first and second dose of the vaccine.

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that 620 vaccine sessions were organised in different parts of the state on Tuesday. In Dehradun 124 vaccine sessions were organised in which 7868 persons above 45 years of age, 203 healthcare workers and 106 front line workers were vaccinated on Tuesday.

In Haridwar 90 sessions were organised on the day in which 4150 persons above 45 years of age, 36 health care workers and 138 front line workers were vaccinated.
