Chhattisgarh Police on Friday seized a whopping 700 kg of cannabis valued at Rs 1.60 crores and arrested a man in Mahasamund district who was transporting it from Odisha to Maharashtra.
Mahasamund Additional Superintendent of Police Megha Tembhurkar told The Pioneer over telephone that Shubham Sahu (27) from Maharashtra has been taken into custody.
The police intercepted a goods carriage in Chhuipali village after chasing it from the Rehtikhol checkpost in the Singhoda police station limits.
Police seized the contraband packed in 32 plastic bags and hidden under bags packed with paddy, husks and broken rice.The vehicle, two mobile phones and Rs 16,000 in cash were also seized.
