Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Bahujan Samaj Party President Mayawati has praised the Central government's Tika Utsav effort while paying her tributes on the birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar here on Wednesday.
On the 110th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar, Mayawati also addressed her party workers.
Mayawati said that the special campaign that the Central government had undertaken to celebrate the introduction of the Coronavirus vaccine on Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 was a good thing.
She said that it would have been more appropriate if the festival was celebrated for supplying free of cost vaccines to the poor and needy people of the country.
She said that on the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, her party requested the Centre and all the state governments to take a decision to supply the Covid vaccine free of cost to the poor and needy people all over the country.
Along with this, there was a need for the Central and state governments to take the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country very seriously, she said.  "These days the people during the election rallies and road shows are very sad and worrying about the gross violation of the Covid rules," she said.
Mayawati said that today was the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and the Messiah of Dalits, the exploited and other marginalised sections of society.
"Today is a very special day for our country.  Bahujan Samaj Party was also established on this day. We are celebrating Ambedkar Jayanti with simplicity across the country. Our party's resolve is to carry forward the mission of Babasaheb and we are also taking it forward" she said.
