Chhattisgarh government while dealing with acute shortage of gunny bags in the ongoing paddy procurement has permitted to purchase paddy in the sacks meant for public distribution system (PDS).
For resourcing the jute bags for the procurement the state government has provided permission to distribute food grains for month of February and March through the PDS system, a press release said on Sunday.
District Food Controller and Food Officers have been asked to provide the jute bags from PDS for paddy procurement, it said.
Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Marketing Federation Nava Raipur, had issued an order in this regard.
“In view of the shortage of jute bags for paddy procurement and less numbers of jute bags supplied by the union government, old jute bags also have been permitted for the procurement,” the order said.
It has been noticed that despite the availability of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP) sack in cooperative societies and miller paddy is being purchased in farmer’s sacks, the order said.
In the coming up week it should be ensured that the cooperative societies should not have any stocked sacks in their godown and the sacks received from millers should be used completely.
Millers have been provided target of supplying 2.69 lakh node of sacks of which 42,360 nodes of sacks have been provided.
