Van Mahotsav: Min Hussain plants tree at Yamuna bank

Delhi food and supply Minister Imran Hussain planted a sapling of Banyan Tree at  NH - 24, Yamuna bank to mark the ongoing Van Mahotsav to plant over 33 lakh saplings across the city this year.

The Van Mahotsav programme is being organised by the Department of Forests and Wildlife, Delhi Government from June 26 to  July 11, 2021. Ishwar Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Nisheeth Saxena, Chief conservator of forest and other senior officials of the Forest Department were also present during the plantation drive.

Hussain lauded the efforts of the Forest Department to curb the pollution levels in the capital by a reduction of 25% in the last six years.

He appealed to the people of Delhi to join and participate in this plantation drive during Van Mahotsav.

Hussain informed that the Delhi Government has started the campaign to plant medicinal plants. Delhi Government has 14 nurseries across the city, any person can visit our nursery and get medicinal plants for free. The medicinal plants available in Delhi Government Nursery are Amla, Guava, Arjun, Jamun, Neem, Tulsi, Giloy, Aloe Vera, Curry leaves, etc.

“The Delhi Government has taken several steps to curb the air pollution in Delhi such as bringing the tree transplantation policy, anti-dust pollution campaign, electric vehicle policy, Red light on-Gaadi off campaign and many others. The Delhi Government is the first State Government to come up with a solution to stubble burning by using bio decomposers,” Hussain said.

He also visited the sites on the banks of Yamuna river where plantation drives were conducted last year and urged the forest officials for proper maintenance of plants and adequate arrangement for watering the plants.
