A youth was mowed down by a car on NH-16 near CRPF Square here on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Rajesh Kumar Swain, was a resident of Rourkela and had come here for his marriage engagement on Wednesday.
Four occupants of the car, including two young women, who were drunk, were detained in this connection.
The four youths, including the two women, were heading towards Jayadev Vihar from Khandagiri in a car in inebriated condition. Midway, their vehicle hit the scooter of Rajesh and he died on the spot.
“All the four persons have been detained for questioning. They were drunk. Along with their car, we have also seized alcohol from the vehicle,” said city DCP Umashankar Dash.
Police sources said the two girls are residents of Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
