‘SC remarks on Nupur plea a lesson for those fanning communalism’

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Friday welcomed the Supreme Court remarks while dismissing the petition of Bharatiya Janata Party’s former spokesperson Nupur Sharma and said that it would be a lesson for those who were spreading communalism and hatred in society.

The apex court while dismissing Nupur’s petition observed that “because of you (Nupur Sharma), the fire of communalism broke out in the whole country”. The court also asked Nupur Sharma to apologise to the entire country for her statement.

Reacting to the apex court decision, Mayawati said in a tweet, "The strict stand taken by the Hon'ble Supreme Court today against Nupur Sharma and the direction to her to apologise for throwing the country into a violent atmosphere with her provocative statement is an important lesson for all those who are trying to communalise the country."

“They are shining their politics by throwing them in the fire. Also, despite the FIR being lodged against Nupur Sharma for hate speech, the negative attitude of the police towards taking action is also now appreciated and action should be taken,” Mayawati demanded.

“With the court taking cognisance, it is possible that this type of trend can be stopped a little further,” the BSP chief added in her tweet.

It may be mentioned that Nupur Sharma, suspended from the BJP, has got a severe reprimand from the Supreme Court. The apex court said that due to the abusive speech of the suspended BJP leader, there was a fire all over the country and due to this security had also been damaged.

The Supreme Court said that Nupur Sharma should apologise to the entire nation for her remarks made on Prophet Mohammad. Earlier, Nupur Sharma had demanded transfer of all the FIRs registered against her in several states to Delhi for investigation over the controversial remarks.

Nupur Sharma said she was getting death threats so she could not go to other states for appearance in court cases. During this hearing, Justice Suryakant reprimanded Nupur Sharma in the court.
