Monday, 20 June 2022 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Two bus staffs sustained critical injuries in a violent clash over the timing and movement of vehicles at the Baramunda Bus-Stand here on Sunday. The injured were admitted to the Capital Hospital.

Getting information, the Bharatpur police reached the spot and started a probe into the incident. The accused goons are still at large. After the initial probe, police are interrogating a few detainees.

As per reports, staff of two buses indulged in a heated altercation over the movement of their vehicles. However, one of them lost his cool and attacked the rivals with a sharp-edged weapon.

A driver and conductor of the bus sustained severe injuries in the attack. The window panes of a bus have also been damaged in the process.

According to an eyewitness, two buses named Babamani and Dildar were about to start their journey from the bus stand towards Brahampur and Chhatrapur, respectively, when the brawl took place.

The staffs of Dildar bus allegedly attacked the staffs of Babamani bus with sharp-edged weapons leaving two of them critically injured.

The locals said the bus stand for long is a den of criminals and all sorts of illegal activities make it unsafe for passengers. But police visibility is negligible.

Taking advantage of it, extortionists collect money forcibly from the buses. But the bus owners out of fear seldom report it. The police must beef up security for the safety of the passengers, the locals demanded.
