5 dead, 5 hurt in SUV-truck clash

At least five persons were killed and another five persons injured in a road mishap in Subarnapur district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Asish Pandia, Pramod Pandia, Siddhi Pandia, Trayambak Meher and Subham Pandia, all from Nimna village under Ullunda block of the district.

A total of 10 persons from Nimna were returning by a SUV after attending a marriage ceremony at Kaudiamunda village late on Friday night. At around 1 am, the vehicle hit a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction on the Mahanadi bridge.

While five persons were killed on the spot, the five others trapped inside the vehicle were rescued by police with the help of gas cutters.

The injured were initially rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to the VIMSAR, Burla for treatment.
