A 65-year-old priest was bludgeoned to death during a robbery at a temple in Barabanki late on Monday night. The incident came to light when locals went to the temple for darshan on Tuesday morning and found the priest’s body lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the temple.
As per reports, Ram Yadav of Babupur village was the priest at the Brahma Dev temple outside Babupur village for some years. On Tuesday. When worshippers found him dead, they informed the local police after which a team led by senior officers rushed there and started an investigation. The police later claimed that around 20 kg of brass metal, including the main temple bell, were missing from the premises pointing towards a possible robbery. The police said that the priest might have challenged the robbers after which they hit him on his head and other body parts with some blunt object and absconded with the booty. A case was registered and investigations were underway to track down the assailants.
Meanwhile, in Sultanpur, a 50-year-old woman was beaten to death by her son on Tuesday after which the accused was detained. As per reports, Shani (22) beat his mother Asha Devi with a wooden club during an argument, after which she died on the spot. The woman had suffered severe injuries on the head and leg. The father of the accused informed the police that his son was mentally unstable and was undergoing treatment. A case was registered and the body was sent for autopsy.
