AAP accuses BJP-led MCDs of Rs 50 cr scam

Friday, 28 January 2022 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP-led Municipal Corporations of a Rs 50 crore scam in collusion with the toll tax company.

Toll tax is a significant source of revenue for the MCD, and the BJP is making a dent in this source as well, Leader of Opposition in South Delhi Municipal Corporation Prem Chauhan said adding that the AAP will protest the move in upcoming standing committee and house meeting.

"The MCD receives approximately Rs 1000 crores per year. Now it is up to the MCD to decide how to take that money, through what medium, and what criteria to follow; all of these things are predetermined. Sahakar Global is a company that recently received a new tender. The company has a rule that requires a 10 per cent advance on the contract, with 5 percent coming from the government and 5 per cent coming from the company. The same thing happened in the previous tender, in which the MCD stated that it was unable to accept the full amount,” he said.

He further said, “This time, the  BJP-ruled MCD waived 5 per cent to the company, which was entirely in the MCD’s hands. As a result, the MCD granted the company a discount of Rs 35 crores. BJP leaders should explain why 35 crores of Delhi residents' money was forgiven to that company. What is the BJP-ruled MCD’s connection to that company? Tomorrow, there is a meeting of the South MCD's Standing Committee, at which the MCD plans to give a discount of about Rs 50 crores in the name of remission."

Leader of the Opposition for East MCD  Manoj Tyagi said that in the name of Corona, the BJP first waived the money for parking violations and is now giving such a huge discount to the toll tax company.

Leader of Opposition for North MCD Vikas Goel stated that waiving Rs 35 crores is not a trivial matter, and that money is being squandered behind the scenes. "The Coronavirus pandemic, according to the BJP, only existed for billionaires. They will now extort from the common man by raising the trade licence fee or raising the house tax," he

said.
