Tuesday, 14 June 2022 | PNS | Chandigarh

With all political parties going all out to win the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, set to go to poll on June 23, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also not leaving any stone unturned to reclaim the seat it won for two consecutive terms. For the same, the party has deputed a team of six Cabinet Ministers to campaign for its candidate Gurmail Singh.

To ensure a thumping triumph and broke party’s previous victory margin, AAP has given the responsibility to Brahma Shankar Jimpa for Sangrur assembly constituency, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s home seat Dhuri, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer for his home constituency Barnala, Harpal Singh Cheema for his home constituency Dirba, Harbhajan Singh ETO for Malerkotla, Dr Baljeet Kaur for Bhadaur, and Laljit Singh Bhullar for Lehra.

All leaders have started campaigning for the party candidate from Monday, holding public meetings, and nukkad sabhas.

AAP candidate Gurmail Singh, who is contesting from the seat represented by the Chief Minister Mann since 2014, is seeking vote on the name of the development works and pro-people initiatives taken by the party’s government in the past three months.

Earlier, AAP MLAs have also started canvassing in favour of its candidate from the constituency, which is a stronghold of AAP since 2014.

AAP candidate, along with different MLAs, held door-to-door meetings with supporters and also addressed ‘nukkad meetings’ in villages and towns in the constituency on Monday.

AAP candidate, along with MLAs including Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, Jagroop Singh Gill, Harmeet Singh PathanMajra, Gurmeet Singh Khudia, Fauja Singh Sarari, Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar, Davinderjit Singh Laddi, Aman Arora and Tarunpreet Singh Sond, campaigned in the constituency.

The incumbent Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had remained a two-time member parliamentary from this seat in 2014 and 2019. This seat fell vacant after Mann, resigned as MP following his triumph from the Dhuri constituency in the state assembly elections.

AAP’s candidate Gurmail is connected to his roots and has been working diligently for the welfare of Sangrur residents for the past many years. He is a post-graduate in maths and has also done MBA. Before entering politics as full-time politician, he was a teacher and taught children at various schools till 2018.
