Saturday, 02 July 2022 | PNS | Ranchi

Deoghar is ready to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is set to inaugurate the famous Shravani mela and Deoghar airport on July 12. Official sources said that the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a 200 beds special ward of AIIMS which is located in Deoghar.

Prime Minister will also address a gathering at Deoghar College Ground. At the college ground, a pandal measuring two lakh square feet will be made that can accommodate 10000 chairs.

However, details of the programme have not been disclosed. As per the information, Modi will visit Deoghar via Bihar.

Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh and DGP Niraj Sinha have taken control of the preparations for the PM visit and his security. Ahead of the visit, the chairman of the Airport Authority of India Sanjeev Kumar, union aviation secretary Rajiv Vansal, joint secretary Rubina Ali arrived in Jharkhand and discussed preparations made for the inauguration of the airport.

This is for the first time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be visiting Deoghar to offer prayers at the temple of Lord Shiva in Deoghar where he would inaugurate the airport also.  Notably, the visit of the prime minister coincides with the famous Shravani Mela which is a center of attraction. The mela is set to start on July 13.

As part of security measures, a mock security drill was also done and key security points have been identified where security personnel will be deployed. The PM who is likely to arrive in the afternoon, will visit the temple where he will stay for 15 minutes. He will then inaugurate AIIMS and then the airport. At the last, he will address a gathering at the college ground. Around 3000 cops and officials are likely to be deployed for security. The Special Protection Group of PM is likely to arrive by next week.

Notably, last week the successful landing and take-off trial was completed. The second trial with a 180-seater Indigo flight was done successfully. The flight originating from Kolkata airport landed at Deoghar airport covering 35 minutes of aerial distance.

Deoghar is the second airport in Jharkhand after Ranchi. This airport was jointly developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Jharkhand government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of this airport on May 25, 2018.

Spread over 653.75 acres of land the project cost of this airport is Rs 401.34 crore. Its terminal building is being built over an area of 4,000sqm whereas the runway is 2,500 meters long. This airport has come up with an estimated cost of Rs 441 crore.
