In the era of Artificial Intelligence and Smart City projects, involvement of youth is increasing at a rapid speed and so is interest in any professional course related to it. A course in Geographical Information Science (GIS) or Geo Informatics is proving to be extremely beneficial for them while pursuing a career in such fields. Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi is beginning a new batch for its GIS Training Programme and has rolled out the admission forms, with 17 October 2022 as the deadline. Each student is provided with a separate computer along with free books and study materials. Software such as ArcGIS, ERDAS, ENVI, i-GIS, and Q-GIS are taught along with training on GPS, DGPS and ETS survey instruments. GIS and Remote Sensing are used in the fields of Urban Planning, Weather Forecasting, Land Information Management System, and Watershed Management Projects.
Dr Prakash Chandra Dash, Programme Coordinator at XISS said, “Geoinformatics as a branch of study, owing to its wider applications in various areas is rapidly gaining popularity and its acceptance by both government and private agencies is attracting students. The placement of the last three batches was almost 95 percent. The classes are from 2.30 pm till 5.30 pm in the evening, which helps students to take this up as an add-on course.â€
From the current batch most of the trainees who sat for placement have been placed at Smart City Project, MGNREGA, Forest Department, Revenue Department, PMGSY, Road Development Dept, Agriculture Department, Mining, Urban Development, Drinking Water Department, Survey of India Projects as well as in the Private Sector and other non-governmental organizations as well.
