There is strong opposition to the proposed ESSAR Miniment Green Field Pellet Plant in Paradip. A public hearing for the Rs 3,347-crore project, to be set up near Bauriapalada, was held on Wednesday here with locals protesting it.
The people stated that if the project is established, the water
resources of the locality will be severely polluted.
The members of the Paradip Nagarika Mancha took out a rally on
Wednesday to show their protest against the project. Police reached on
the spot and negotiated with the protesters.
The 14-million-metric-tonne-per-annum project will be installed
over 40.49 hectares (about 150 acres) land. However, 33% of
the project area is filled with green belts for environmental
protection.
