GDMC to start PG course in non- clinical subjects

After the approval given by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) here has got necessary approval and recognition to start the Post Graduate (PG) classes in forensic medicine.  The college has got an approval for three PG seats in this branch. After this approval the college would have 34 seats in its PG courses. The college has also applied to NMC for its approval to start PG courses in Medicine, orthopaedics, TB and chest and Ophthalmology. On the application of the college, a team of the NMC inspected the facilities at the department of ophthalmology of the GDMC and associated hospital on Monday. The head of the department (HoD) of the ophthalmology, Dr Yusuf Rizvi and associate professor Dr Sushil Ojha accompanied the NMC team and gave the information sought by the team members. The NMC teams have already visited the medical college and hospital for recognition of PG classes in the Medicine, orthopaedics and TB and Chest departments.

The Principal of the GDMC Dr Ashutosh Sayana said that the college was set up seven years ago and it started with 150 seats in the MBBS course. He said that the PG classes started in the college in the clinical subjects in the year 2020 and at present college has 31 seats of PG. The Principal exuded confidence that recognition to start PG classes in non clinical subjects would be given by the NMC. He said that the facilities and infrastructure are continuously increasing in the GDMC and with increase in PG seats the number of specialist doctors in the state would increase. Dr Sayana disclosed that the application for recognition to start PG seats in the paediatrics and psychiatric departments would be given in the next session.
