Govt to further strengthen security system of banks

In order to further strengthen the security system of banks, the state government on Tuesday said that all safety measures should be in place to avert any untoward incident. Instructions were also issued to make internet banking better and more convenient.

Addressing the 29th meeting of the State-Level Security Committee at the Reserve Bank of India in Gomti Nagar on Tuesday, Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad said that surveillance systems and data storage need to be made more effective to further strengthen the security system of banks. 

Adequate arrangement of CCTVs should be made mandatory in all branches, currency chests and ATM booths while security equipment, alarms, sirens, etc installed in banks should be checked regularly, he said.

For proper arrangements for fire safety in banks and currency chests, the standards laid down in the fire audit were also discussed in detail. Instructions were given to officials concerned to make adequate arrangements for fire prevention in all banks and conduct fire audit compulsorily. From time to time, it will also be monitored by the officials of the bank and fire department. Instructions were also given to the officials concerned to strictly check the circulation of counterfeit currency.

Various points related to safe movement of cash used in the currency chests of banks, especially for their transportation to other states, were discussed in detail. Discussions were also held on making the security system of currency-chests and ATMs more effective. Special emphasis was laid on strengthening effective coordination between bank branches and local police stations.

The meeting was attended by Home Secretary BD Palson, Regional Director of Reserve Bank of India (Lucknow) Dr Balu Kenchappa and Regional Director of Kanpur Reserve Bank of India Dr Ishan Shukla, along with representatives of major banks working in the state, senior police officers, etc.
