Kisannagar IIC axed for lapse in duty

Wednesday, 29 June 2022 | PNS | CUTTACK

Sasmita Rana, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of the Kisannagar police station in Cuttack district, was on Tuesday placed under suspension in connection with the death of a man following a self-immolation attempt before the PS.

Rana has been suspended with immediate effect for her negligence in duty, stated an order issued by the State Police Headquarters.

Earlier, the Cuttack Rural SP B Jugal Kishore had recommended the DGP to take action against the Kisannagar IIC after the victim Gunanidhi Bisoi had succumbed to the burn injuries which he had sustained during the immolation bid before the police station.

“We have conducted an inquiry and written to the DGP recommending action against the IIC,” the SP had said.

It was alleged that Bisoi attempted immolation after he failed to get necessary assistance from the local police officials despite being assaulted by his relatives over a property feud.

Bisoi poured petrol and set self on fire before the police station, was rescued by police personnel and was initially rushed to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack and later shifted to a private hospital.

Earlier, the police had arrested the prime accused involved in the attack on Bisoi and his son.
