N’rangpur: Fake godman held for raping minor

Wednesday, 28 September 2022 | PNS | NABARANGPUR

A resident of Jhatiapara village under Raighar block in Nabarangpur district has been arrested by the Chhattisgarh police on the charge of raping a minor girl in Bishrampur in the neighbouring State. The accused was identified as Buduram Andakari.

According to reports, Buduram posing himself as a spiritual healer had been treating villagers. Claiming that he was possessed by the spirit of Lord Hanuman, he had been cheating people in his village as well as Chhattisgarh.

On September 19, a family from Chhattisgarh had visited the self-styled godman at his village for treatment of their daughter, who was complaining of stomachache. They returned back on the same day after consulting Buduram.

On September 22, he went the girl’s residence in Chhattisgarh and started some rituals to cure her. As directed by him, the family confined him along with the girl in a room. After he left the place, the victim revealed to her parents about being sexual assaulted by the godman.

Later, based on the victim’s family’s complaint, a team of the Bishrampur police led by IIC Ravi Shankar nabbed Buduram from his village. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act for the crime and he was produced in court.
