Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday morning conducted a raid at the farmhouse of former Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Rakesh Chandra.
The raid was conducted against Chandra in the disproportionate assets case besides the case of illegally occupying the forest land. It has been learnt that the land where Chandra’s farmhouse is situated, covering three acres in Kane Ka Bada village in Naya Gaon in Mohali district, belongs to the state Forest Department.
As per the information available, the Vigilance Bureau’s technical wing is also calculating the cost incurred on building a farmhouse. The team comprises a civil engineer and other technical experts to find out the cost of construction.
Several vigilance vehicles reached the farmhouse at around 9 am, and the raid continued till 2 pm. During the raid, officials of the Public Works Department were also present along with the vigilance team, who covered every corner of the farmhouse and took measurements.
Former ADGP said that the vigilance team told him that the action was taken after a complaint was received against him. Chandra said that he had shown all the documents related to the farmhouse to the Vigilance team on the spot. Chandra lives in his resort-cum-farmhouse situated amidst the Shivalik hills. The vigilance team is now engaged in estimating the original cost of this farmhouse.
Notably, Chandra retired in 2021, and the farmhouse was constructed in 2009.
