Looking at the growing numbers of Covid patients in the State and also detection of fresh cases locally, the authorities of VIMSAR, Burla have opened an exclusive Covid Hospital inside the campus which was closed a few months back.

“On Saturday, three persons of Burla coming for treatment for fever were found Covid positive and they have been asked to remain in home isolation,” informed Superintendent of VIMSAR Burla Dr LM Nayak. There are also instances of new patients all over the district and region, Dr Nayak added.

“Hence, as part of preparation, we have already reopened the existing Covid hospital with 10 beds ready to meet the immediate requirements. Preparations are on to add more beds in the first and second floor of the hospital so that there would be no scarcity of bed ahead," said Dr Nayak.

The doctors and all other staff who were in charge of the Covid centre have been asked to get ready to discharge their duties like before as they have already shown their dedication and sincerity during those critical hours amidst both fear and risks, Dr Nayak told.

Notably, the capacity of the Covid-I hospital is 250 and that of the Covid-II hospital is 300 with 50 ICUs in each. “But basing on our past experiences and mode of treatment with high rate of recovery, we are ready to meet any challenge ahead,” Dr Nayak said.

He appealed people to wear masks and take all preventive measures like before since the fear of Covid is not totally over and a fourth phase is expected due to increase in the number of patients all over the country.
