No oxygen, asthma patient dies at SCB

Wednesday, 25 January 2023 | PNS | CUTTACK

An asthma patient died at the SCB Medical College Hospital here allegedly due to shortage of oxygen on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Bhababat Mohanty (82) of Baleswar district.

Mohanty had initially been admitted to the Baleswar District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to the SCB Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

His family members alleged that he was not provided oxygen while being shifted from the Casualty Ward to the Medicine Ward. “We requested the hospital staffers for oxygen support to the patient, but they told us that there was no oxygen. Negligence on the part of the hospital authorities led to the death. We demand stringent action against those responsible for it,” the deceased’s kin said.

SCB Hospital Administrative Officer Abinash Rout said a committee would probe into the allegations.

“I have held discussion with the Medical Superintendent in this regard. We have also talked to the HOD of Medicine Department. A committee will be formed to ascertain negligence if any. Action will be taken against those found guilty,” said Rout.
