Administrative paralysis plagues AAP health model: BJP

Tuesday, 09 April 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Former Delhi BJP President and Member of the Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta, along with Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and party MLAs, slammed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in Delhi for sorry state of affairs of city health sector. Gupta detailed instances of nepotism, administrative paralysis, and deliberate obstruction of beneficial health initiatives, casting a shadow over the AAP's proclaimed health model.

Gupta brought to light specific allegations concerning the period when Satyendra Jain served as the Health Minister. He said that the appointment of MD/MS and heads of departments in 17 Delhi government hospitals and medical colleges heavily favoured individuals sympathetic to AAP, disregarding merit and fostering nepotism.

Gupta also highlighted the current stagnation in the appointment process for new heads of departments and MD/MS. He pointed out that the National Capital Civil Services Authority (NCCSA), under the chairmanship of CM Arvind Kejriwal, has not convened since September 20, 2023, despite the pressing need for these appointments. Now, that these appointments are due for change, the entire appointment process has been stalled.

The 17 hospitals include DGHS, Lok Nayak Hospital, GP Pant Hospital, BSA Medical College and Hospital, Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, DDU Hospital, Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, Burari Hospital, Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital, Lal Bahadur Shashtri Hospital, Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Dr. Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Rao Tula Ram Hospital, Acharya Shree Bikashu Hospital, Maharishi Valmiki Hospital.

He raised serious concerns over 11 critical proposals pending with CM Kejriwal. These include actions against delinquent officers, such as Dr. R N Dass, OSD to the current Health Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, who is under scrutiny for corruption charges. Gupta accused the CM of deliberate inaction, thereby hindering the initiation of necessary criminal proceedings against the officer.
