Moon & Your Emotions

A highly significant heavenly body in Vedic astrology, Moon signifies emotions, mood and mind.

Associated with romance, beautiful nights and mood swings, Moon is understood as auspicious or heavy as its position and size, ie the waxing and waning periods.

This much, I think all of us are well acquainted with owing to our culture, science books and of course bollywood. But intrigued to the core, as to why only moon of the celestial entities is held responsible for the element of romance, I reached for Shri Guru Rajan Ji, who like always satiated my urge with his wisdom.

'Yat Pinde Tat Brahmande’ is a Sanskrit axiom that holds a tremendous secret of this creation—’Whatever is in this body is in the cosmos too’.

Water in our body, which roughly amounts to 70 per cent of our physical existence, is periodically affected by the phases of the Moon in the same way as its gravitational force controls the tides and tidal eddies. The fluidity in our body shifts and changes the balance in our mind, which activates our emotions to the extreme.

Indian ancient scriptures such as Vishnu Purana talk about the origin of the Moon. According to this purana, the Moon has emerged from the Milky ocean with his soft and snowy beams.

Moon, called Chandra in Sanskrit, is also associated with the kapha dosha that combines water and earth elements.

Moon has a soothing and calming effect on the body-mind complex. It carries and reflects the sun’s light energy without its harshness; balances excess heat.

Moon has the distinction of being the fastest moving of all the planets in astrology. It takes a journey through the twelve signs of the zodiac in just over 27 days.

Just like the mind... quickly running thoughts.

Shivji wears a crescent Moon upon the head like a jewel. This is to indicate the highest level of perception.

Moon pushes your energy in a certain way. If your quality is joy, you will become more joyful. If your quality is love, you shall experience more love. If you are meditative, your meditative inclination shall become strong. If you have a mental illness, that will also get enhanced. Full Moon amplifies your qualities.

When it comes to romantic compatibility, the placement of Moon in the astrological chart becomes important.

Ÿ  A strong emotional connect is struck if both people have the same Moon sign.

Ÿ  Moon signs in compatible elements (fire and air, or earth and water) lead to better emotional understanding between both the persons.

Ÿ  Moon signs in incompatible elements (fire and water, or air and earth) of the two persons may find them experience conflict and frustration in their relationship.

The aspects between the Moon and other celestial  bodies  (Venus and Mars) impact our romantic relationships. For instance, if in one's birth chart, Moon is in harmonious aspect with Venus, one is loving and receptive to romantic overtures. However, if Moon is in a challenging aspect with Mars, one is found to be argumentative and retaliating.

In astrology Rohini is Moon's favourite wife amongst the 27 who make up the 27 nakshatras.

Ÿ  Moon rules Rohini Nakshatra, thus influencing intuition, emotions, and nurturing qualities. People born in Rohini Nakshatra are often very sensitive and have a strong connection to their emotions and the emotions of others.

Moon is in Rohini Nakshatra, carries the energy of sensuality and devotion and is a time to express affection and care to those you love.

Full Moon is a good time about romantic relationships as it is the peak of the lunar cycle when the Moon’s is entitely illuminated by the Sun’s rays. Associated with the completion of a cycle, signifying a sense of fulfillment, it relates to   blossoming of a loving relationship to its fullest potential.

Full Moon’s shine hints at introspecting in relationships that could foster a deeper connection and understanding between partners.

Pearl being the primary gemstone for Moon, followed by Moonstone, that may be worn besides exercising the following practices shall benefit one about a happy mind.

1. Drinking plenty water to please Moon.

2. Respecting one's mother and express love to her.

3. Taking a dip in the holy river Ganga on Amavasya and Purnima.

Mantras of Moon

1. Om Shram Shreem Shrom Saha Chandramase Namah

2. Om Som Somaaye Namah

3. Om Shreem Shreem Chandramase Namah
