A 10-year-old girl diagnosed with OS ASD (Ostium Secundum Atrial Septal Defect), a heart condition characterized by a hole inside the heart, has undergone a successful percutaneous closure procedure in AIIMS Bhopal. This groundbreaking intervention was conducted using an ASD device under general anaesthesia, marking the first-ever procedure of its kind in the institute.
The patient had sought medical attention due to inability to gain weight and shortnessof breath, leading to a diagnostic evaluation that identified the presence of ASD. A dedicated cardiology team, consisting of Cardiologists Dr.Bhushan Shah, Dr Madhur Jain, Dr Kislay Srivastav, along with Anesthesia team comprising Dr. Vaishali Waindeskar, Dr. Harishkumar, Dr. Seema Dr. Ashima and cath lab technicians and nursing officers, worked diligently to ensure the success of this pioneering procedure.
This achievement reflects a significant step forward under the guidance of Executive Director Prof. (Dr) Ajai Singh in the state's healthcare capabilities, allowing for the management of a wider range of interventional cardiac cases in pediatric patients within the state itself.
