With the mercury rising in the national Capital, electricity demand is touching new heights. The peak power demand in Delhi is expected to cross the 8,000 MW mark for the first time in the summer of 2024, the BSES and Tata Power said on Monday, asserting that discoms are prepared to meet the record demand.
Last year, the peak power demand was 7438 MW. In a span of about 20 years, this expected peak power demand this year is an increase of around 280 percent over the peak power demand of 2879 MW in 2002.After clocking a record power demand of 7695 MW in 2022, Delhi’s peak power demand during the summers of 2024 will break all previous records with the possibility of reaching 8200 MW according to State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) data.
According to BSES, Power demand in South and West Delhi is expected to clock 3679, an uptick from 3250 MW and 3389 MW during the summers of 2023 and 2022 respectively.
East and central Delhi show the same upward trend with the peak power demand expected to touch around 1857 MW this year.
