Rights of Dalit class people are gift of Congress and Babasaheb: Jai Kishan

Four time Congress MLA from Sultanpur Majra Jai Kishan paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Ambedkar on his 133rd birth anniversary at his residence on Sunday while claiming that ‘the rights of the Dalit class people are the gift of Congress and Baba Saheb’.

Kishan, dignitaries of Delhi Sangharsh Samiti, followers of Baba Saheb from Buddhist Mahasabha and other organisations were also present who paid tribute to Baba Saheb. Hundreds of Congress workers were present on this occasion.

Former MLA Kishan, while paying his tribute to Baba Saheb, said “The rights of the Dalit class people are the gift of Congress and Baba Saheb. Baba Saheb’s contribution and struggle cannot be forgotten. History is witness to the power and reservation that Congress and Baba Saheb gave to Dalits and equal rights and power to men and women.”

He asserted that it is because of Ambedkar that people of the Dalit class are living with their heads held high. “Otherwise they did not have the right to even spit on the ground, offer procession on a mare or drink water from a well,” the Dalit leader said while paying his tribute.

Kishan claimed that apart from Congress, leaders of other parties had even called Baba Saheb a stooge of the British for their political gains. “The Central Government is making huge life-size statues of other leaders. But neither any statue of Baba Saheb nor any tourist place is built where people can roam in his memory,” he said while attacking the BJP regime.

Remembering former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, he said Gandhi followed the footsteps of Ambedkar. “Rajiv Gandhi gave the youth the right to vote at the age of eighteen, women empowerment, Panchayati Raj and computer revolution. Other security, planning, and right to education were given to the country. This is the contribution of Congress only,” he added. He attributed the Congress for respecting Baba Saheb and making him a member of the Constitution Committee and the Law Minister of the country. “Non-Congress parties had conspired to break the Constitution made by Baba Saheb in the name of constitutional review.

The rights of Dalit classes, women, youth, labourers, farmers and minorities are safe only during the rule of Congress. Leaders of other parties exploit them,” he said.

On this occasion, clothes and sports materials were distributed to poor women, elderly people and children living in slums.
