India’s rich list meets its first movie monarch: The billion-rupee Baadshah

Thursday, 02 October 2025 | Rajesh Kumar

The ‘King’ of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan has achieved another milestone, joining the elite billionaire club. The Hurun India Rich List 2025 is dominated by Mukesh Ambani. The country may be mostly young in terms of its population, but the rich list of Indians is dominated by the older lot, mostly those born between 1928 and 1964.

They are two-thirds of the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025. In its 14th year, the list uses a cutoff of Rs 1,000 crore as net worth, calculating wealth as of September 22, 2025. Citing Shah Rukh’s wealth growth, the list mentioned: “Bollywood’s Badshah, Shah Rukh Khan (59), joins the billionaire club for the first time with a wealth of Rs 12,490 Crore.”

Shah Rukh is now richer than several international celebrities, including Taylor Swift ($1.3 billion), Arnold Schwarzenegger ($1.2 billion), Jerry Seinfeld ($1.2 billion), and Selena Gomez ($720 million), to name a few. Last year, Shah Rukh topped the list among actors, but his net worth was $870 million. The new $1.4 billion net worth makes Shah Rukh arguably the richest actor in the world, whose primary income comes from cinema. His business partner, Juhi Chawla, and her family, are the next on the list with a reported net worth of Rs 7,790 crore. Hrithik Roshan ranks third, way behind with a wealth of Rs 2,160 crore. Major stars like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, and Ranbir Kapoor are absent from the list. Neither do the top female stars of the era, including Deepika Padukone or Alia Bhatt, make the cut. Even Aditya Chopra, head of Yash Raj Films, is absent from the list.
