Rajnath Singh inaugurates 125 strategic border infra projects

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday inaugurated 125 strategically significant infrastructure projects constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). The ceremony was conducted from the newly completed Shyok Tunnel in Ladakh, marking a major milestone in strengthening border infrastructure and enhancing the nation’s defence preparedness.

These projects, spread across seven States and two Union Territories, comprise twenty-eight roads, ninety-three bridges and four strategic infrastructure facilities, collectively representing a significant step toward bolstering connectivity in some of India’s most challenging and remote terrains. The highlight of the inauguration was the 920-metre cut-and-cover Shyok Tunnel on a vital strategic road in Ladakh, which will ensure all-weather connectivity, operational flexibility and faster mobilisation in the region.

Additionally, the 3D-printed Habitat and Administrative Complex at Chandigarh stands as a pioneering achievement, showcasing the BRO’s adoption of futuristic construction technologies. In Arunachal Pradesh, seven key bridges were inaugurated across the Shi-Yomi and Siang Valleys under Project Brahmank, significantly improving connectivity in remote border areas.

The Shene Bridge on the Tato–Mechuka road is a vital link constructed in extremely challenging terrain, promising a major boost to both defence infrastructure and local tourism. Furthermore, five bridges constructed along the Ditte-Dimme road — namely Ritbung, Rabung, Seyo, Raboung and Sirak — will strengthen defence logistics and spur socio-economic growth. The Naglung Ri Bridge on the Tuting – Bona axis further reflects the Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure close to the frontier.

During the virtual inauguration, Arunachal Minister Kento Jini, lauded the BRO’s exemplary capacity and resolve to achieve the extraordinary in treacherous terrains. Jini expressed heartfelt appreciation, attributing much of Arunachal Pradesh’s development to the BRO’s relentless service.
