In a bid to ensure peaceful and secure celebrations of Republic Day 2025, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday directed the implementation of enhanced security measures across the State. Acting on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s mandate for safety and harmony, the Punjab Police has intensified night domination operations, increased vigilance at sensitive locations, and bolstered border security.

The DGP, accompanied by Special DGP Internal Security RN Dhoke, ADGP Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Nilabh Kishore, and ADGP Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Promod Ban, chaired critical law and order review meetings in Amritsar and Jalandhar. These sessions involved senior officers from the Commissionerates of Amritsar and Jalandhar, as well as Police Ranges from Border, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana. The review covered counter-terrorism initiatives, drug trafficking controls, and the containment of organized crime.

“Security arrangements were reviewed and suitable instructions have been given to maintain peace and harmony by ensuring police presence at all important places, intensify domination operations and other preventive and detective measures ahead of Republic Day celebrations,” said DGP Yadav, adding that comprehensive security arrangements are being enforced to maintain peace and harmony ahead of Republic Day.

He said that Police presence has been reinforced at key locations, and night patrols are being conducted to preempt any potential threats. He emphasized that additional police forces have been deployed in sensitive areas, particularly in border districts, to maintain vigilance and thwart any disruptive activities.

DGP Yadav instructed all Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (CPs/SSPs) to monitor suspicious activities closely and take decisive action against any security breaches. “Officers have been mandated to act firmly against anyone breaking the law. Immediate FIRs should be registered against individuals found indulging in violent or unlawful activities,” he asserted.

Key measures include increasing checkpoints across districts, maximizing vehicle inspections, and enhancing scrutiny at border crossings. These actions are aimed at curbing criminal and terrorist activities.

To further bolster security, the DGP emphasized the need for issuing Look Out Circulars (LoC), Red Corner Notices (RCN), Open Arrest Warrants, and Blue Corner Notices (BCN). He also directed the preparation of extradition proposals to bring wanted criminals hiding abroad back to India to face justice.
