Rise of picantes: The zesty delight

Picantes, derived from the Spanish word for “spicy,” have emerged as a new trend in the world of drinks, especially during the summer months. They are known for their bold fusion of heat, citrus, and fresh herbs, picantes offer a zesty experience that suits warm-weather sipping perfectly. Their appeal lies in the balance of spice and tang, often using ingredients such as lime, grapefruit, or orange juice, with a kick from chilli, ginger or black pepper.

Alcohol-Free Picantes in Spotlight

These traditionally rooted in spicy tequila cocktails like the Picante de la Casa, the trend has now taken on new life in the mocktail space. Alcohol-free picantes use fresh fruit juices, chilli infusions, and sparkling bases to create complex and satisfying alternatives. Popular variations include mango picante with red chilli syrup, pineapple and jalapeño fizz, or a cucumber chilli cooler with a tajín rim. These mocktails retain the punchy character of their alcoholic counterparts while aligning with the growing demand for healthier, more inclusive summer beverages.

Benefits of a Spicy Sip

Picantes offer a refreshing and invigorating drinking experience, especially suited for summer. The combination of citrus and spice not only awakens the palate but can also stimulate metabolism and aid digestion. The subtle heat encourages perspiration, helping the body cool naturally. As both cocktails and mocktails, picantes cater to a wide audience, offering a bold, flavour-packed alternative to sugary drinks. Their use of fresh ingredients aligns with the growing demand.
