Bengal will remain pipe dream for the BJP: TMC

The Trinamool Congress has asserted that the Bihar election results will have no effect on Bengal, as it is Chief Minister “Mamata Banerjee who matters in Banga.” The TMC’s remarks came after the State BJP leaders gave a call for a “final putsch” to throw out Banerjee from power.

“Out of Anga (Bihar), Banga (Bengal) and Kalinga (Odisha), two have fallen. Now it is the turn of Banga. The BJP workers are called upon to prepare for the final battle in 2026 when the corrupt Mamata Banerjee government will be pulled down from power,” Bengal Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari said.

Another senior saffron leader said, “Abki bari Didi hari (now it is the turn of Mamata Banerjee)” even as the BJP workers descended on the streets celebrating and distributing sweets all over Kolkata, Howrah and several parts of Bengal. The TMC was prompt to react, saying, “This time also the BJP will face a humiliating defeat in Bengal like they did in 2021 when they targeted 200 out of 294 seats but ended up winning 77 seats only.”

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh claimed in a post on X that the TMC would return to power for the fourth time with over 250 seats, with an additional jibe at the Congress, saying the Bihar elections once again showed that the tri-colour outfit was not fit to lead the opposition.

“Bihar has its own equation, which has no connection with Bengal. Once again, I loudly iterate that Bihar will not affect Bengal. Whereas the factors are different in Bengal, the factors are only development, unity, harmony, rights, and self-respect. Mamata Banerjee will once again return to power with 250 seats and become the Chief Minister again,” Ghosh said, advising the Congress once again to “introspect why some parties are repeatedly failing to give leadership.”

He said, “People’s love cannot be won by hurting their rights and self-respect. The way Bengal and Bengalis have been insulted and the way their self-respect has been hurt, they will never vote for the BJP. In Bengal, love only matters, and the people’s love is with Mamata Banerjee, whether it is winter, summer, or monsoon.

“Saying that the TMC would keenly watch the direction the BJP-JD(U) relationship would go, Ghosh said that “all the tricks being applied by the BJP via Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bengal would go in vain. SIR and other tricks based on which the BJP is exuding such confidence will have little or no impact in Bengal. They will use agencies and other modes to browbeat us, but we will continue to fight them and defeat them here.”

Another senior leader and MP said, “In Bihar, they could not catch the BJP’s tricks and track SIR and thwart its manipulation as they were not in power, and those who were in power played the game. But in Bengal, the khela (game) will be played by none other than the TMC and Mamata Banerjee.”
