Brisk polling in Bengal sans violence in Phase II

Brisk and near-peaceful polling was witnessed in three seats of Darjeeling, Balurghat and Raiganj which went to polls on Friday in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections.

Barring perhaps of some stray complaints of rigging and heckling of BJP State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar the polling went off nearly peacefully, sources said. A bunch of TMC workers blocked the path of Majumdar at Tapan Assembly segment where he went following complaints of rigging, sources said. The EC had sought reports from the Returning Officer regarding the incident sources said. At Darjeeling to TMC protesters raised slogans against BJP MP and candidate Raju Bishta when he went to cast his vote, source said.

Till 2 in the noon the percentage of voting at Darjeeling was 49 whereas Balurghat saw 44 per cent polling.
