Trinamool Congress candidate from Krishnagar Parliamentary constituency MP Mohua Moitra skipped appearance before the Enforcement Directorate officials in Delhi citing her preoccupation in election campaigns. She was asked by the Agency to appear at its Delhi office on Thursday in a Foreign Exchange Maintenance Act (FEMA) related case.

Moitra a sitting MP who was expelled from Parliament last year for her alleged involvement in cash-for-query case said that she could not go to Delhi as she was preoccupied with election campaign and would appear virtually if the ED officials wanted her to do so.

Moitra was called by the Agency in a foreign remittance and fund transfer case. According to sources some transactions related to a non-resident external account are being investigated by the Agency which earlier interrogated her associate Suhan Mukherjee.Apart from Moitra a corporate honcho and a friend of the TMC MP had also been summoned for questioning by the ED, sources said.

On whether she was apprehensive of her fate considering what happened to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who was arrested by the agencies earlier this month Moitra said, "ED is doing its work and I am doing mine … I will ask all the lawful questions that are put to me … but is it the time to ask the questions … it is time for campaigning and everyone knows that I am a candidate from Krishngar for which I have to go campaigning which is part of my job … presently I am going to Kaliganj Assembly area … I have other areas to visit too … It is difficult for me to go to Delhi now … so I am not going today." Moitra said that she had communicated through her lawyers that she could appear virtually if she was allowed to do so.

Earlier she had called the ED summons an act of vendetta when the agencies raided her Kolkata houses last week.
