On Monday when the Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Amol Kirtikar was questioned extensively by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Khichdi scam, expelled former Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam charged that Sena (UBT) leader and spokesperson Sanjay Raut was the kingpin behind the scam.
By dragging Raut's name into the Khichdi scam, Nirupam has given a new dimension to the scam, which took place during the Covid-19 pandemic when Uddhav Thackeray headed the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra. At that time, the unified Shiv Sena controlled the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Interestingly, both Nirupam (59) and Raut (62) are both journalist-turned-politicians. Both of them made a mark for themselves from the stead of late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.
While Nirupam was the Executive Editor of Dophar ka Saamana, the Hindi edition of Saamana, Raut has been the executive editor of the Shiv Sena’s official Marathi mouth-piece “Saamana”.
