The Bank of Baroda launched the third phase of its Banking Fraud Awareness campaign called ‘Pehchaan Kaun 3.0’ on Wednesday.
The bank has released two ad films to alert people against new-age financial frauds such as artificial intelligence-generated deepfake scams that can dupe even the most vigilant customers.
Executive Director Lal Singh said: “With the advent of new technologies, the modus operandi of financial cons is also evolving rapidly. Hence, all of us need to be vigilant and learn to identify a potential fraud or scam."
An official communique from the bank said these videos illustrate how anyone, even the smartest and strongest, can get conned. Through deepfake technology, scammers can masquerade as a family member, a close acquaintance or target online shoppers by posing as a delivery agent and asking for an OTP. This is then used to hack into one’s personal data.
