Mobile thefts on rise in Bhopal, 18 to 20 mobile phones stolen each day in city

The incidents of mobile theft have also started increasing in the city. On an average, 18 to 20 mobile phones are being stolen every day in Bhopal. In which a missing complaint is filed by the police.

Last year, more than 6500 mobile phones were reported stolen, out of which the police could trace and recover only 700 mobile phones. Every year, mobiles worth Rs 10 crore to Rs 12 crore are being stolen. Cyber crime is able to recover 10 to 12 percent of mobile phones.

On filing a complaint of stolen mobile, an application for loss of mobile due to cyber crime is taken in the police station. After this these mobiles are put on searching. The mobile phones which are easily found during searching are recovered by the police.

It is very difficult for the police to recover mobile phones from distant locations. In such a situation, the police do not go to other states to recover these mobiles. Apart from this, mobile repairs also buy stolen mobiles and use their parts in other mobiles.

In the year 2022, Cyber Crime had received 5112 complaints of lost mobile phones. Out of which the police had recovered 850 mobiles. Whereas last year 6500 complaints of missing mobiles were registered. Cyber crime could recover only 703 of these mobiles from different places. Police have returned more than 1400 mobile phones to people in two years.

When a common man reaches the police station with a complaint of mobile theft, an application is taken from him, in which it is written that his mobile has been lost, about which he is informing.

If someone mentions in the application that the mobile has been stolen, then it is disconnected and the mobile is reported lost. On receiving the complaint of mobile theft, the police have to register an FIR and recover the mobile.

Therefore, the police took the application of the lost mobile and put the matter on hold. FIR for mobile theft is registered by the police only on selected application.
