Over 1 K students participate in voters’ awareness quiz competition in Deoghar

Monday, 08 April 2024 | Pravin K. Mishra | Deoghar

People living across the shrine city of Deoghar are now witnessing a widespread voters’ awareness campaign ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

For the first time in a while, over a thousand students enrolled in various secondary and senior secondary schools in the district participated in hours-long quiz contest programmes meant to make them aware of the electoral process, voting rights, and their duties and responsibilities towards society on Saturday.

This was the first phase of the three-phased awareness programme of the district administration. The second and third phases of the programme would be organised on April 8 and April 13, respectively.

The entire activity is being carried out under the Election Commission of India’s promising programme, Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP).

Thanks to the Deoghar Deputy Commissioner, Vishal Sagar, who came forward and directed the concerned district and block-level authorities to look after the sensitivity of the elections, electoral processes, and public awareness campaign ahead of the upcoming elections and directed them to pursue these programmes.

“Massive quiz competitions are being organised among the secondary and senior secondary students, including male and female, so that they can widely contribute to society. As per the direction and guidance of our Deputy Commissioner, the entire programme has been divided into three phases. While, in the very first phase, we have focused, individually, on all the secondary and senior secondary schools, our next target is to cover up the maximum possible students on the block and district level during the second and third phases of this programme, respectively”, said Deoghar, District Education Officer (DEO) and District Superintendent of Education (DSE), Binod Kumar.

“Our main objective is to educate the citizens of all classes, like: disgruntled members of society or socially and economically weaker sections. We are also concentrating on youngsters, especially on first time voters. If everything goes well, the voting percentage would certainly go high in days to come”, Deoghar DEO added.
