Friday, 05 April 2024 | SAROJ KUMAR MISHRA | PURI

A lawyer of Puri court sustained severe injuries after a bomb hurled at him exploded on his hand. In serious condition, the victim was referred to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack, after preliminary treatment at DHH, Puri.

The victim was identified as Subash Chandra Sahoo of Gopalpur village under Penthakata Marine PS limits. The police arrested Arjun Moharana (47) and Basudev Moharana (58) of the same village based on a complaint by the son of Sahoo. Police seized a bicycle used by Sahoo, his wearing apparels, besides residue particles of the explosive materials from the incident site.

Both accused were sent to jail on Thursday after being produced before the SDJM of Puri. After preliminary inquiry, police came to know that both accused are brothers and they had an old enmity with the victim which might be a reason for the incident.

According to police, while the lawyer was on his way to attend the court from his house, Arjun and Basudev came and restrained him near their village. In the meantime, Arjun hurled a bomb targeting the head of the lawyer, but it missed the target and exploded on the road. Again, Arjun threw another bomb, but the lawyer blocked the same by showing his right hand. The bomb went off on the hand resulting in serious injuries to his hand.
