Tewari questions BJP on what it did for Chandigarh during 10 years

Monday, 29 April 2024 | PNS | Chandigarh

Former Union Minister Manish Tewari — the candidate of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) from Chandigarh parliamentary seat — on Sunday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) what it had done for the city during the past 10 years when it had a four-engine government.

Tewari, addressing a series of meetings and speaking during public interactions, pointed out that there was BJP’s Home Minister, the Governor as UT Administrator, the MP, and the Mayor — all from BJP. “Plus, there was another ‘toy-engine’ in Sanjay Tandon as city BJP chief for eight years tagged along,” he added.

“It is time that they tell what they have done for the city and mention one single achievement if they really have any…Do not tell us what you are going to do, tell us what you have done in the last ten years,” Tewari asked the BJP, particularly the party candidate Sanjay Tandon who was the UT BJP president for eight years during this period.

Tewari said that the Congress has a proven record of taking welfare measures, which touch the common man and make a difference in their life.

Asserting that it is the Congress which has built up massive infrastructure across the country, he pointed out that it was the Congress that built and developed Chandigarh into a modern city known across the globe for its beauty. “The institutions set up in Chandigarh like the PGI and the Panjab University are globally known…The Congress has bequeathed such a great city to the people and promised that it will improve the infrastructure and add further to its beauty,” said Tewari, who was accompanied by the Chandigarh Congress president HS Lucky, AAP leader Dr SS Ahluwalia, among other senior leaders of the two parties.

Tewari also conducted a ‘pad yatra’ (foot march) in Burail area, addressed a citizens’ meeting in Sector 38; and addressed a public meeting in Raipur Khurd village.

Two Prominent Cong Leaders Join BJP

Chandigarh: BJP got another shot in the arm in Chandigarh as two prominent Congress leaders — Parveen Narang ‘Bunty’ – the president of District Congress Urban; and Parikshit Rana – Youth Congress state vice president joined the BJP along with their scores of supporters at the two different events. In addition, the Sood community also has lent its support to the BJP Chandigarh candidate Tandon.

Tandon said: “I welcome Narang ji into the BJP parivar. Congressmen are joining our party in hordes as they have become disillusioned with Congress party’s leadership and are getting attracted to the growth-oriented policies of the Modi government and want to be with a party that is dedicated to the development of the nation.”

I will take up the metro project proposal with the Central Government soon after becoming a Member of Parliament and our beloved PM Narendra Modi will be invited for a stone laying function,” assured Tandon.

Tandon Leads Bikers' Rally

Chandigarh: BJP Lok Sabha candidate Sanjay Tandon on Sunday flagged off as well as led the motorbike rally from his residence till Namdhari Gurudwara in Sector 30, which passed through various sectors raising pro-Modi and pro-Tandon slogans. “I was reminded of my younger days when I used to accompany my father Balramji Dass Tandon on his bike during the election campaigns,” said Tandon.

Meanwhile the rally concluded at Sector-30 Gurudwara where members of WTF held placards of Modi to show support for Tandon’s election campaign. After this, Tandon paid obeisance at the Namdhari Gurudwara, and was presented a ‘siropa’ as a mark of respect. Suba Gurmukh Singh, head of Namdhari Sangat of Chandigarh and Panchkula, announced support of the Namdhari community to the BJP candidate.
