The fifteen day classical workshop is being organised at Alauddin Khan Sangeet Evam Kala Academy here from May 1. Many students aspiring to learn Kathak, a form of classical dance have registered their names for the summer classes.
A noted and distinguished Kathak performer Alpana Shukla Vajpai is training the students and making them learn the basic steps of Kathak. She has been trained in traditional ‘Guru Shishya Parampara’ in Bhopal itself by Pt Kartikram of Chakradham Gharana and she is teaching the same methods to the kids. As many as 25 to 30 children of age group between 5 to 12 years are a part of the workshop.
The children are learning different forms of Classical dances. The director of the academy Ganesh Bhalchandra Bagdare said, “During summer vacations children want to give time to their hobbies and want to learn new things. This is basically a dance workshop, where specialist in Kathak dance form Alpana Shukla Vajpai will teach children dance steps.”
Most of the children love to dance and enjoy the music. The Alauddin Khan Sangeet Evam Kala Academy is training children in classical dance mainly pure Kathak, Semi-classical Kathak dance.
At the workshop, the students are taught about the basics of the classical dance and they will learn the Kathak mudras. The children enjoy dancing and they are always keen to learn something new. The classical dance form is something really exciting for them. The main motive of this summer dance workshop is to enhance the skill of classical dance among children and also the facial and body expressions.
Besides, the children are also learning the rhythmic understanding, ability to extemporise with speedy rhythms and preserving pure Kathak classical style and matching the footwork with live playing instruments on stage.The students are enjoying the summer vacation activity at the academy.
