SSB expedition team embarks on mission to scale Mt Everest

A 10-member expedition team of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) departed from SSB Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare Training Centre on its mission to scale Mount Everest to mark the golden jubilee year of the SSB. Earlier in June 2012, a team from SSB had also scaled the 7,075 metres high Mount Satopanth in Uttarakhand.

SSB Academy Srinagar, director S Bandopadhaya, Commandant (Medical) Dr P Mitra and Commandant Amit Kumar wished the mountaineers all the best for a successful expedition. The 10-member team lead by Commandant Somit Joshi will attend a function to be organised in the SSB Headquarter in New Delhi on April 2 and Union Home Secretary RK Singh will present the national flag and SSB penchant to the team members in the function before flagging off the Mount Everest expedition team.

SSB commandant expedition team leader Somit Joshi said that the team members have practiced hard and fully prepared to scale the 8848 metres high Everest peak. Joshi stressed that after the team has trained rigorously in the high altitude areas for the last two years to prepare for the expedition. Chief mountaineers and senior area officer Ummed Singh Bisht and assistant area officer Subodh Kumar Chandola have already scaled various prominent peaks in the Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand including Mount Satopanth in Gangotri.

The team leader informed that the expedition team comprises six mountaineers, one medical officer and three organising members. The main members include Tame Bagang, Vinod Singh Negi, Rahul Tyagi, Kaushal Kumar and Mohd Tasum Bhai who were also part of the 18-member team which had scaled Mount Satopanth in 2012.
