New corps headquarters at Ranchi soon

Indian Army is all set to establish a new Corps Headquarter at Ranchi to enhance the military supremacy in Eastern India. Official sources reveal that presently Army is busy in managing adequate accommodation and infrastructural facilities.

lieutenant General (lt Gen) Arun Kumar Sahni, Sena Medal, Vishisth Seva Medal, Army Commander South Western Command on Wednesday said that the proposal of this set up was passed in the 12th Defence plan of Government of India.

On the occasion of 66th Army Day today, the Army Commander was at Ranchi to felicitate the distinguished Three players of Ranchi Rhinos replaced and gallant personnel and units of South Western Command during the ‘Investiture Ceremony’. Appreciating the human resources of Jharkhand in relation to Army services he said, “We will conduct two recruitment rallies in Jharkhand this year. The first one will be around April or May.”

Army in its last held recruitment drive here absorbed 90 out of 300 candidates.

Highlighting the recruitment of women officers in combat arms to serve the nation in difficult and inhospitable terrain, he mentioned, “Though women are being employed in nursing, medical, engineering, air defence, intelligence and judicial branches but in the coming five to 10 years Army might involve women officers in Combat Arms.” Notably, the General officer is an alumnus of Kendriya Vidyalaya Hinoo who further joined the National Defence Academy when his father was posted at Ranchi. “I am personally connected to this place as I have spent my student life here,” he said.

He expressed his happiness on Army units contribution towards the local welfare of this state. Sena Medal (Gallantry) was awarded to Major Sadeep Khawas, Major Salim Khan, Major Sanjeev Singh Major Sonu K Sidharthan, Hildaldar Rajnish Kumar and Naik Surendra Kumar Bhari. Colonel NK Bhagasra, Colonel Raj Kumar and Havildar Bhaskar Deuri were given Sena Medal (Distinguished) award. Vishist Seva Medal was presented to Major General Balbir Singh and Subedar RS Jalal.

As many as 78 Armoured Regiment, 64 Field Regiment, 311 Field Regiment, 9 Engineer Regiment, 2 Field Sub Group, 3 Para Special Forces, 20 Mechanized Infantry Regiment, 7 Rajputana Rifles, 8 Sikh light Infantry, 12 Dogra Regiment, 7 Garhwal Rifles, 1 Mahar Regiment, 9 Mahar Regiment, 3/1 Gorkha Rifles, South Western Command Counter Intelligence Unit, 494 Army Service Corps Company, 18 Division Ordanance Unit and 7010 Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Battalion were felicitated with Unit Appreciation Cards in their respective operational duties during the past one year.

The General was accompanied by his wife Vineeta Sahni (Regional President of Army Wives Welfare Association), lt Gen NS Ghei, AVSM, General Officer Commanding ‘Chetak Corps’ and many other senior Army and Para Military officers.
