It was an evening full with mild and charismatic Dhrupad music. Renowned dhrupad singer Pandit Vinod Kumar Dwivedi enthralled the audience with his splendid performance.
A musical evening ‘Swar Sandhya’ was organized on Thursday at Dhushyant Kumar Memorial Manuscript Museum, Bhopal. The event was organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Bhopal chapter under its regular ‘Virasaat’ series. Pandit Vinod Kumar Dwivedi gave a solo performance at the programme.
Performing after almost 15 years, Pandit Vonod Kumar Dwivedi seemed really excited. Talking to The Pioneer he said, “I am excited as I have performed before new audience, the audience who are aware about the dhrupad gayan.” Elaborating further he said, “Nowadays people know dhrupad and love this form. It was fabulous performing in city of lakes after so many years.”
Dwivedi also mentioned about the Dhrupad Sansthan (Institute). “I am really happy that through Dhrupad Institute of Madhya Pradesh this form is reaching beyond boundaries. To learn any form of music one should learn dhrupad first and dhrupad Institute is doing it very well.”
During the programme, Dwivedi began his performance with Raga Jaijaiwanti. Under this raga he performed char taal bandish where he sang the praises of lord Krishna with lyrics ‘Mor mukut Kano me kundan’.
This was followed with shoolpal bandish in same raga. Welcoming the spring season, Pandit Vonod Kumar Dwivedi performed Taal Basant in nine beats (nau-matra) with lyrics Shiv Yata me Ganga.
Dwivedi then performed Dhamar. He wrapped up his melodious performance with bhajan in Raga Bhairavi.
