The ruling Trinamool Congress on Wednesday came down heavily on the Narendra Modi Government for using the CBI against its political adversaries, more so ahead of elections.
Slamming the BJP Government for using CBI to arm-twist, the Opposition senior Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee said, “it has now been a regular practice of the BJP to unleash the CBI on Trinamool Congress, particularly if it is an election year.”
His statement came close on the heels of reports getting public that CBI special director Rakesh Asthana would visit Kolkata on Thursday.
Asthana was likely to visit Kolkata in an apparent bid to dust up the chit fund files, insiders said.
During his visit he would hold meetings with investigating officers at Nizam Palace. The top official is likely to discuss the status reports on investigations into key chit fund scams including Sharada, Rose Valley, etc, with senior officials like joint directors, DIGs and SPs, sources said. The officers have been asked to bring the case diaries and status reports of investigations.
The fresh move on the part of the CBI was promptly dismissed by Chatterjee as a bid to arm-twist the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
