Four undertrials were injured when two groups came to a head inside Mathura district jail in the early hours of Tuesday. Ironically, Mathura jail authorities did not inform the local administration about the development aiming to conceal it and shifted the injured to the jail hospital from where one of them was shifted to the district hospital. No case was registered in the matter so far.
The incident was also hushed up by the jail brass as one of the accused used knives to attack each other, but how the sharp-edged weapons found their way inside the barracks would be difficult for the officials to explain. As per reports, Ashok Kumar of Chatarpur (Bihar) was lodged in Mathura district jail about six months back after being arrested in a murder case. On Tuesday morning, Ashok had a tiff with two inmates, identified as Veerpal and Bhola of the same barrack. The matter snowballed with both parties brandishing knives and attacking each other.
Before jail guards rushed and pushed away the two groups, Ashok, Veerpal, Bhola and another inmate were injured. Sources said that the condition of Bhola was critical and he was battling for his life at Mathura district hospital.
